Why Energy Democracy?

Our organization exists to support energy democracy. We are an multirace, multiclass community energy coop dedicated to building long term ownership and stewardship of community energy.

Key Strategy

  • It is part of the new economy and doesn’t always fit well in the old economy.
  • Who owns it matters.
  • Access to financing is key.
  • There is no silver bullet.

Accomplishments

We’ve built 24 new businesses. We’ve created a 10 million dollar tax equity fund for community solar. We’ve created an innovative structure that communities can use to create good green jobs, increase access to clean energy and own it.
